19th August:
There is a certain irony in the way that some news items are reported and what elements of the story the journalist chooses to focus on. As an illustration, take the news last week of a Cambridge city-centre restaurant that caught fire and the subsequent race by fire-fighters to stop the fire spreading to the nearby Christ’s College. Which is 500 years old. And terribly important. And which was saved, although some of the college’s windows were apparently slightly damaged by the heat from the blaze.
I’ve never been to Christ’s College and therefore couldn’t give a monkeys. All I know is that I now have to find somewhere else to go for my Sunday lunch.
